Their were some major issues that needed to be fixed. The condition of Cleaves Hall was
a "progress in motion" according to local residents. During the first semester a lot of student
residents had complaints. The RA's had to write up the complaint(s) and turn them in. When
the RA's finish filing the complaint(s) they take them to the housing office. Then the filed
complaint(s) goes to Ms.Richie. After that Ms.Richie tries to get each complaint handled. She
sends handymen to the dorm in need of fixing. Finally, the handymen comes to the dorm/room
and works on the issue. This is a long process and it takes patience.
Some of the current residents had some complaints they wanted to share. According to student
(#1), " My room was extremely cold!!! The heat was never working and I've complained numerous times. How are we supposed to live comfortably when it's always freezing? It feels like it's 20 degrees in there!"
Another student (#2) said "There was mold everywhere in this building. The ceiling was falling apart in the showers. In the dorm rooms their was a lot of wall paint chippings. Then to top it off
one of the restroom stall doors was missing! I should be able to have privacy in the restrooms."
One of the RA's (Javonte Mahone) said "He called a dorm meeting and told them that dorm rooms will be renovated. Meaning there will be new air conditioners, painting the walls, and everything." It seem's as though Cleaves Hall is making progress in getting new renovations. New year, new look is Cleaves 2020 resolution.
Coming into 2020 Cleaves made some changes to the dorm rooms. Here are some of the changes the students has seen. Student # 1 said, " I've noticed that the AC unit have new controls. Now I can adjust the temperature when needed.Especially, when it's cold at night."
Student # 2 also had some good comments about Cleaves. This student said, " They liked that the walls were repainted. I'm also pleased with the fact the ceiling being fixed. Most importantly the restrooms have been remodeled. I just appreciate that Cleaves Hall looks more organized and clean."
Cleaves Hall has shown progress in the dormitory with new air units, cleaner rooms, and no mold.
